Gluten-free Fika in Gothenburg
If you are travelling in Sweden and exploring Swedish customs, you will come across Fika. Fika is a daily lived part of Swedish culture, which is basically similar to the afternoon coffee or tea break in other countries. However, the fika is given a more important meaning. It is the time to get together, chat and relax over a cup of coffee and a sweet pastry, the fikabröd. Whether at work, with friends or family, fika is a good way to de-stress, and of course it's also a good habit to do on your own. Sweden has a great coffee culture and there is a wide variety of Swedish baked goods that should be tried during a visit. So it is obvious that having a fika is part of the must-do programme in Sweden!
And Gothenburg is the ideal city for it, with cosy cafés on every street corner. To make it easy for you as a Celiac, I am sharing a map of cafés for a gluten-free fika with you here. Even after a year in Gothenburg, I still haven't had enough of them and will expand the list when I come across another café worth recommending. However, I will not link cafés in the charming old town district of Haga. There are several, but I personally found them very touristy and therefore prefer to walk through it but then visit other places for a fika.
