Gluten-free in Gothenburg (Sweden)

Scandinavian countries are known as very gluten-free friendly and outstanding in their offer for celiacs, and Sweden is no exception. I have been living in Gothenburg for a year now as a coeliac and exploring the gluten-free options. It feels good to be around Gothenburg and knowing that you can find something gluten-free in most places and rarely face complete unawareness. Also, Swedes speak very good english, which makes it easy to communicate.

Gothenburg is a cosy city where it's fun to walk through the streets and sit down somewhere. To make it easier for you to explore the city rather than searching for something you can eat, I created a map with restaurants where I had good experiences so far through Thatch.

This map contains places for lunch and dinner. If you are looking for something sweet, please check out my "Gluten-free Fika in Gothenburg" posting! The guide includes a mix between "real" restaurants and fast food restaurants. It is focused on more affordable locations and leaves out luxurious and expensive places. In addition to my recommendations, it is common at a lot of places to have gluten-free burger buns or pizza dough to offer. This makes it even easier to sit spontaneously somewhere you like. Still, it is always necessary to explain everything has to be gluten-free even regarding contamination (if necessary for you). The following map includes only the locations where I was satisfied with the gluten-free possibilities!

If the map does not show my linked locations, please click here to be redirected to Thatch and view my entire posting.
